Spacepants
Saturday, December 16 2023 at 8pm
One piece uses haze, projection, and spatialized sound to create a multistable equilibrium. The piece creates an expected synchronicity between light and sound; as the piece progresses the elements take on their own behavior and the pairing breaks down. Throughout the piece, balance shifts and the equilibrium of the space is drawn to multiple points.
Another piece uses bricks, piano wire, and metal plates to create an unstable sound world. Several brick towers bear the responsibility of maintaining their sound world; each tower moments from collapse. Gravity maintains the piece and the behavior of an action-oriented performer stresses the system.

Tapetail is Automata’s new experimental sound series, launched in October 2022.
Tapetail presents live events and sound installations featuring the work of experimental sound artists.
We are currently looking to present shows and installations that deal with "liveness" where something about the experience is best presented live, whether through improvisation, special acoustic treatment or audience experience. There’s been a lot of great art happening in the virtual and digital world so now we’re turning our focus back towards bringing people together for sound experiences that are best experienced in a live setting.
Automata’s Tapetail series
is curated by Cassia Streb.
