AMBIENT AMBIANCE
David Tranchina + Ensemble
April 6, 2024 8pm
Tapetail, Automata's Experimental Sound Series, is excited to welcome avant garde jazz composer David Tranchina with an evening of ambient chamber music performed by his chamber ensemble with electronics. This evening-length performance weaves together written compositions and group improvisations.
In developing Ambient Ambiance, Tranchina found that he wanted to experiment with a different type of sound, something calm and peaceful and centering, with a range of textures and movements that evolve over a long period of time. Inspired by the compositions of John Luther Adams, Tranchina and ensemble strive toward a never-ending feeling of suspension, almost like floating in outer space or on the ocean, creating an experience that is both vast and slow moving.
AMBIENT AMBIANCE is performed by
Daniel Corral - Accordion
Cassia Streb - Viola
Louis Lopez - Trumpet
Argenta Walther - Voice
Phil Rankin - Keyboards / Synths
David Tranchina- Bass
TICKETS
General Admission: $18

About the Artist
An educator, session musician, and veteran of the Southern California music scene, Tranchina’s compositions are evocative and memorable, filled to the brim with textures, emotion, and surprise.
Tapetail is Automata’s new experimental sound series, launched in October 2022.
Tapetail presents live events and sound installations featuring the work of experimental sound artists.
We are currently looking to present shows and installations that deal with "liveness" where something about the experience is best presented live, whether through improvisation, special acoustic treatment or audience experience. There’s been a lot of great art happening in the virtual and digital world so now we’re turning our focus back towards bringing people together for sound experiences that are best experienced in a live setting.
Automata’s Tapetail series
is curated by Cassia Streb.
