HANNAH BEADMAN
Open Studio + Screening
Embodying love, sacred through profane, a site-specific drawing accompanies two films in creating a cave-like space.

Please join Automata’s current resident artist Hannah Beadman for an Open Studio + Screening of Aphrodite (16mm, 3.5 min, 2019, USA) and Evening Star (HD, 20 min, 2019, USA). A recent scroll-like drawing fills an entire wall space, accompanying the screening.  Films will loop intermittently between 2 PM and 5 PM and guests are welcome any time.

About the Artist:

Hannah Beadman’s film, drawing and installation work expresses that which is hidden and surfacing from the psyche: non-diegetic narratives, fragments, motivations; elements of dreamscape, landscape, emotional memory and transformation. Experimental filming, post processes and sound create environmental journeys. Structure and technologies are specific to each work or assemblage.

She studied Fine Art at University of the Arts London (MA) and University of East London (BA), as well as Film and Video at CalArts (MFA). From UK, she currently lives and works in Los Angeles.

About the Films:

Aphrodite (16mm, 3.5 min, 2019, USA (projected as digital video)
from a meditation at the Cypriot Aphrodite temple, an ancient site, touch as feminist, healing and contemporary; sound is the voices of water, precognitive, immersive, trance.

Evening Star (HD, 20 min, 2019, USA)
a hot springs bathhouse with Venus as Evening Star: water, static and grain dissolve bodily landscapes; sound intensifies through liminal narrative abstraction.

Hannah Beadman will be present at Automata during the Open Studio + Screening

"Hannah Beadman explores a different approach to the body in Aphrodite, in which a beautiful grey texture flattens a scene of bathers. Light on water and social bodies at play are interwoven with airy voices, singing without words – although their emotion is clear.”  ----Alchemy Film Festival
